August Meeting
This month's Scripture is Samuel 1:20-24.
Our August meeting was held on Aug. 6th at the home of Mary Lou McBroom. One topic of great discussion is raising our chapter dues. In an effort to keep adequate funds available, we need more participation in fundraising. Because we have now established the Lee Kavan Memorial Scholarship for the Cottey College Summer Programs, we must have funding of over $400 available each spring, in addition to funds for projects throughout each year. Because participation in fundraising seems to be low, we are asking for $25 in donation from those members who did not contribute items to the garage sale fundraiser in June.
On a postivie note, we have raised over $100 in loose change since May, and we raised over $175 thanks to Becky Niemeier and her Mary Kay fundraiser.
Our October meeting will be on WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7th, with no meeting on Thursday, October 8th. This is because we will have our state officer's visit. Officers will meet at 4pm, with the regular meeting to begin at 7pm. We will perform Initiation Exemplification, so officers ....get memorized!!!

A message from Breanna Engeman, the young lady we sponsored to go dance camp at Cottey College:
"I had a wonderful time and my parents were impressed with the showcase. I would love to come to one of your meetings. I will see if there is any way for me to make it. Please let me know where you meet and what day and time. Thank you so much; the program is amazing. The first couple of days were a little rough; I missed my sister and was out of my comfort zone but the activities were really fun and as I got to know people, I started having a great time. Just let me know what you would like for me to do and I will do my best."

Team Building Cooked up a Storm!!!
On the evening of June 24th, Robin Pearson-Stanley hosted her 2nd annual (we hope) Team Building event. It was a blast. Partners created courses to a meal, and then we sat down at an elegantly set table and shared our cuisine. Not only was it FUN, but the food was DELICIOUS!!! Participants also received a parting gift of cookie cutters in the shape of a star and a PEO flower, as well as snacks.
The winners this year were Ann Mauzy and Dawn Lehr with their "Chocolate Baklava" dessert. What fun!!!!

We will use our chapter member donations to create the Lee Kavan Memorial Scholarship to be used to send girls to the summer programs at Cottey each summer. We feel these are two great ways we can honor Lee and her devotion to women, education, and the foundations of P.E.O.

Spring Forward!!!
At our last meeting, we had much to celebrate.
Gail Martin led her final meeting as President of Chapter MK.
Thank you Gail for your time and service and for being such
a great leader. Your spirit and enthusiasm brought many great things
to our chapter.
We did have the installation of the following new officers for 2009:
President: Susan Holstedt
Vice President: Gail Martin
Secretary: Angie Perkins
Guard: Mary Lou McBroom
Correspondence: Ann Mauzy
We also learned that Mary Lou's student, Lily, is back at school and doing very well. Mary Lou's daughter, Elizabeth, had another surgery in Texas, and is recovering. Ginger's family has had a trying month with her daugher-in-law's heart condition (but she is now on a transplant list!), her dauther, Rachel, had knee surgery, and her father is also having some health issues.
Susan's daughter has received a full ride scholarship at Buena Vista College in Iowa.
We have much to be thankful for and much to look forward to as we "spring" forward in Chapter MK.

Spreading the love...
If you missed our last meeting, Robin invited her friend, Kim Martin, to speak and share a video with us, about an amazing student from Hickman Mills High School that is sponsoring a very special Flag Corp, made up of very special students, from this school. The members of the Flag Corp are either physically or mentally challenged individuals, and it is a very inspiring story about a student that took on sponsorship of this group, when they were at risk of being eliminated because no one would sponsor them. Breanna Engeman is a junior in high school, and has really placed her mark on these students and the school with her accomplishments. I am passing on this link, and hope that you will take a moment and read the story, and you’ll see what I mean. Breanna was featured by Phil Witt on Fox 4 in their Reaching For Excellence program back in November, 2008.

Latest News
Welcome to the Chapter MK blog!!!
Our February meeting is next week, February 5, at Robin Pearson Stanley’s home. Festivities will begin with a meal at 6:30. Please RSVP to Robin so she will have a good head count for dinner. Her email is davestnly@kc.rr.com.
Also, please bring donations for Half Price Books, and something to contribute to the care package for the IPS student. I mentioned this in my January 11 email. Suggestions would be gift cards (Sonic, Applebee’s, Walmart, HyVee – those are places that have a location in Maryville), candy, inspirational books – whatever you can think of that a college student might enjoy.
Annual dues are payable by the end of February, so if you can pay at this meeting, it would greatly appreciated.
